Day 4 - Sunset Bay, OR to Klamath, CA

Sunset Bay is so beautiful, we have to take more photos on our morning walk before we head down the road. This is a place you definitely want to visit!
Our campsite and "little rig"

Quite cozy and comfortable
A path leads from the campground on the east side of the road over to the beach.

Path under the highway

Bella!

Tide is out at present

Sunset Bay

This tree appears to be losing the battle of tide and erosion, it will go soon

Roots of a very big tree left behind from ??? when

Along the shore is the picnic area; many rules!
On to Klamath, CA!

We stop at Port Orford for breakfast at a little diner there, the Paradise Cafe.

Johnnie tries their hot roast beef sandwich, I have the french dip sandwich- it is a 3 1/2 star rating for the food and the people were nice!

All up and down this part of the Southern Oregon Coast and Northern California Coast we keep seeing signs about Myrtlewood. So we stopped at a Myrtlewood "factory" which turns out to be a man who loves doing woodworking and creates all manner of beautiful pieces from Myrtlewood. This tree is native only to this coastal region and to a place in Israel (need to check into this and see if it is mentioned in the Holy Bible). The grain and coloring of the wood is fascinating and varies widely. We just have to buy a piece for our den (I maybe running out of wall space to hang all these things and have to reconstruct the wall we removed! Just a warning to my brother in law :-))

Hwy 101, north of Port Orford is the Myrtlewood factory

The leaves of the Myrtlewood are very pungent; reminds me of Eucalyptus
I drive part of the time to give Johnnie a break and for me to get used to driving the truck with the camper on. It definitely is different with all that weight and being top-heavy. Johnnie walks down to the beach and prays before I start driving. Go figure!

Johnnie doesn't want to stop at a scenic overlook as he is anxious to get on down the road to Klamath (remember the Destination Orientation?) so he takes these from the truck window. Not the best photography but you get the idea of the captivating coastline.

Coast between Gold Beach and Crescent City

Lots of low fog and drizzle this morning

At last we make Klamath, CA about 3pm. Whew! Johnnie appears to have survived my driving and his spiritual life got a big boost from all that prayer time!

We are staying at the Camper Corral just south of town by the bridge. This is another neat area where the river meets the ocean. They are catching lots of salmon here: they call them Jack fish, which we later figured out means Silver Salmon.

Many campsites in this place, some with shade, some in the wide open. We have full hookups and the shower house is clean -- that is my main criteria.

Johnnie hears the bears come into camp each night and raid the fish cleaning station, so guess where we are camped? Yep, right next to the fish cleaning station! Yikes! So we ask the owner what prevents the bears from coming further into the campground and raiding the food stores there. He assures us that he uses a paint ball gun to limit their range to the fish cleaning station. A paintball gun? Really? Hm. No middle of the night trips to the restroom for me, that is for sure!
